What Is a Desktop Buddy?

A desktop buddy is a small companion that hangs around while you use your computer. Ours is a chibi race car — a browser pet that drives, drifts and idles on the web pages you already have open.

One thing we want to be upfront about: your buddy lives inside Chrome, not on your Windows or macOS desktop. There is no .exe or .dmg to install, nothing is added to your wallpaper, and you never have to restart your computer. You add one extension and your car appears on the pages you browse — and it is gone the moment you close the tab.

That also means zero footprint on your machine: no background installer, no tray icon, nothing left running when the browser is closed. If you came here looking for a desktop pet program, we would rather say it now — this is the browser kind. If that is what you want, you are in the right place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about your desktop buddy.

Is it really free?
Yes — completely free. No account, no sign-up and no in-app purchases. Add the extension and pick a car.
Will it slow down my browser?
No. Your pet is lightweight and only draws while it is on screen, so you will not notice it during normal browsing.
How do I uninstall it?
Open chrome://extensions, find Pet on My Screen and click Remove. Removed is removed, with no leftover files. You can also just pause the pet from the toolbar icon if you only want a break.

Ready to Adopt One?

It takes less than a minute: add the extension, pin it to your toolbar, and pick your car.
